A team of Columbia Business School students covers the latest initiatives aimed at expanding access to modern energy services in the developing world.
About Our Project
This blog is maintained by a team of Columbia Business School students working with the Earth Institute to bring modern energy services to residents of the Milleninium Villages Project sites in Africa.
We believe that private enterpises supported by a network of supportive stakeholders in government and civic society can provide the most effective and sustainable energy solutions for people at the base of the pyramid.
We are currently researching the costs throughout the supply chain for a range of rechargable lighting appliances and solar systems suitable for use in off-grid areas of rural Kenya.
We are also developing a preliminary business plan and establishing a network of supportive stakeholders in Kenya that can be tapped into by the energy enterprise.
In addition to sharing the results of our own work, we'll be covering other private and public sector intiatives to expand access to modern energy services in developing countries.
